My Future Husband

(Yeah, I realize I'm writing this on a blog which contradicts everything I say below but I wrote it quickly without editing if that's any consolation)

I like this book. I'm aware that my opinion is hardly an expert one, but this book solidifies what I talk about constantly and it's comforting to not feel so alone in my opinions on how technology is handicapping us as a society.

More and more I've been thinking of 1984 and Newspeak

Okay, I get it. A text message is easier then a phone call. The sting of rejection is greatly lessened by an unreturned e-mail than an awkward face to face meeting and I'll be the first to admit that I'm guilty of this. But in the end aren't we the ones losing out? Things that come out of my mouth are usually too blunt and most often embarrassing but the fact that I can't take ample time to manicure my thoughts and feelings to make myself seem smarter/funnier/sexier makes them more real, right?

I think John Freeman agrees. Which is why I'm going to carve an eloquent letter onto a big clay tablet asking him to have coffee with me.

My Dad and Ralph Goings

Home today and already I'm freezing. This house is primarily glass, the floors are cold concrete and it just depresses me a little. I miss our old house with wood floors and warm rugs. My dad bought a 1966 airstream trailer that he plans on restoring and we're picking it up in a few days. This reminded me of Ralph Goings, an artist I really liked awhile back when I was really into photorealism. This is his painting "Airstream" 1970.

Places To Go: Lake Baikal

This is a lake located in the Russian region of southern Siberia (the next place will be a warm one I promise). Even so, Lake Baikal seems pretty amazing despite the cold (the water in the summer reaches a high of only about 40 degrees). It's the biggest, oldest, and deepest lake in the world with over 1,500 species that are unique to it alone, like the world's only fresh water seal. It makes up for about 20% of the world's fresh water supply. It also has mutated species, hot underwater geysers, the fact that scientists don't even know how deep it actually goes, AND the rumor of the Lake Baikal monster. Lets go.
